There is a place where four countries of Africa meet in perfect harmony. Beatific Botswana, natural Namibia, vivacious Zambia, and Great Zimbabwe are all a short distance from this lively town. Here, in the far northeastern corner of Botswana, you can experience all the allure that Southern Africa has to offer.
Five-star accommodation, riveting games drives, and endless excitement await you in this world-class town. African adventure doesn’t get more jam-packed, more inclusive, or stunning than Kasane, Botswana.
Kasane: African Perfection
While Kasane itself is a small town, the surroundings make this place truly remarkable. This unforgettable destination lies on the south banks of the famous Chobe River. Its location also borders the furthest most tip of the Caprivi Strip in Namibia.
With just a short ferry ride, you can visit the Namibian island of Impalila. The island sits opposite the town on the north bank of the Chobe river.
On the island, you’ll find forests of knobthorne, mopane, star chestnut trees, and waterfigs. You’ll also be able to appreciate the small farming and fishing villages by visiting the locals’ schools, churches, and tiny shops.
Five miles (8 km) east of Kasane you’ll encounter the village of Kazungula. This vibey place serves as a border crossing into Zambia. Not too far away you’ll also find a second border post. Here you can gain entry into Zimbabwe.
It’s just 43 miles (70 km) from Kasane to Victoria Falls, which means a trip to the World Wonder is a must! We’ve made the journey so much easier with the launch of our scheduled flight between these top two African destinations.
Hop on a Mack Air flight and be ready for fun within the hour. And, you can always add the Hwange National Park circuit to your itinerary and get the full rounded Victoria Falls and Big 5 experience from April 2022.
Kasane is a popular entry point for tourists, thanks to the busy, thriving Kasane Airport. It’s easy to see why this town is such a main attraction as it acts as a starting point for a huge variety of thrilling safari adventures.
You can make a day trip to the Chobe National Park or take a scenic flight over the Okavango Delta. The Zambezi River is also in close vicinity to Kasane, a turbulent river that offers some wild boating opportunities!
Kasane Lodges
Kasane’s fabulous lodges offer prime spots to enjoy game drives. Just be warned, some of these areas are not suitable for self-drivers or campers, due to their rough terrain and remoteness.
If you are looking for more of a “roughing it” experience, Kasane offers accommodation closer to the Chobe National Park. Here you can find chalets and a campsite.
These places may be less opulent than lodges, yet they provide for a different and wilder lens through which to view Botswana. Some even offer a magnificent sunset deck that overlooks the rippling river. A place where you can observe elephants lazily trailing their trunks in the water and crocodiles basking in the golden sun.
Some visitors may want more of a family experience when travelling and once again, Kasane steps up to the plate. The town has a large hotel, which boasts a nine-hole golf course and an endless supply of children’s facilities for major family fun and quality time.
Kasane Attractions
Go Wild In Kasane
The biggest benefit of Kasane being so close to one of Botswana’s most beautiful national parks is that the area offers all the wildlife you would expect from a world-class safari destination.
Take a game drive through the park and feast your eyes on the largest elephants in Africa, both in size and number. The rest of the famous Big 5 also roam the area so get ready for Lion, Leopard, Rhino, and Buffalo. Sadly, rhinos are becoming a rarer sight owing to the global pandemic of poaching.
A day’s safari through the Chobe National Park could have you surrounded by a multitude of antelope too. This includes the rare sable and their intriguing scimitar-shaped horns.
The exciting wildlife is not just found padding around on the ground. To wind up a long day, why not enjoy one of the relaxing boat cruises that glide across the river? Enjoy sundowners on the deck as you watch the moving sight of baby hippos splashing about as they try to beat their siblings to the top of mum’s back .
Be careful not to get too close to those temperamental hippos though. Being on the wrong end of a hippo charge is a hair-raising thrill you may rather avoid!
Victoria Falls
Kasane is just a stone’s throw away from one of the world’s most famous natural wonders, Victoria Falls. Widely believed to be the Adventure Capital of Zimbabwe, Victoria Falls offers an array of fascinating activities. These are suited to any adrenaline junkie’s wildest dreams.
Experience the rush of whitewater rafting in the gorges. Test your boundaries and push your limits while bungee jumping from the great bridge.
Test your strength against the waters and go kayaking. Get to see the bigger picture, and take in the glorious surroundings with an exciting flight over the falls.
Maybe huge bursts of adrenaline are not your thing? That’s perfect too. The falls offer more sedate options.
Just getting to experience the falls is magical. Stroll through the rain forest that is shrouded by the mist of the unrestrained thunder of water. Or, take part in other enjoyable activities such as horse-riding, shopping, and exploring the quaint surroundings of Victoria Falls.
